The Beanie Yann in Yak Down — The warmth of the high plateaus
To face winter, I went looking for one of the rarest natural fibres there is. At 1971, no ordinary beanie would do: I wanted premium comfort, the kind that comes from the end of the world.
This beanie is knitted in 100% Mongolian yak down. On the high plateaus, where the cold shows no mercy, the yak grows a down of exceptional fineness beneath its coat — warmer than sheep's wool, and soft as cashmere. It's this fibre, and this fibre alone, that makes up your beanie.
It is neither dyed nor chemically treated: you wear it just as nature made it, in its original colour. Light, breathable, naturally insulating, it keeps you warm without ever smothering.
But what makes this beanie precious is also the way it comes to life. The down is hand-combed by nomadic herders, during the animal's natural shedding season — an ancestral, cruelty-free gesture that respects the animal as much as the tradition. The fibre comes directly from a cooperative of nomadic families, and the beanie is crafted in a small workshop set up by those same communities. From fleece to finished knit, a short, transparent and fair supply chain.
